APLMA at the 7th APMEN annual meeting in Vietnam, 23-27 March 2015

An excerpt from Executive Secretary, Dr. Ben Rolfe's, speech at APMEN’s 7th annual meeting in Hoi An, Vietnam, Wednesday 25 March 2015

“The Asia Pacific response to malaria now stands as a good example of countries working together to shoulder responsibility for the health security of their people.

But unless we succeed in stopping drug-resistance in its tracks – by eliminating malaria altogether in the region – it could potentially trigger a significant resurgence and related deaths worldwide, leading to serious economic impacts and immense human suffering.”

This video animation provides a stark example of the threat of malaria resurgence when political and financial commitment wane, and what could happen if our last line of resistance - artemisinin - loses its efficacy against the disease.
