Despite decades of impressive life-saving progress towards ending malaria, recent years have seen stagnation and even resurgence in parts of the Asia Pacific region. Experiencing the fifth highest case increase in the world in 2022, Papua New Guinea provides a poignant backdrop for this crucial dialogue and a strong call for increasing investments to leave no one behind.
Occurring for the first time in Melanesia, this high-level convening will gather regional Heads of State, Ministers of Health, Senior Officials, National Malaria Programmes and other global partners united under the theme ‘invest to achieve zero malaria’ and include an agenda focused on sustaining financing, engaging communities, and committing to the 2030 elimination goal.
The Leaders’ Summit is strategically structured to address both the policy and technical pillars of malaria elimination. The first day will serve as a leadership platform for high-level policy dialogue and political commitment. The second day will transition to a more technical focus, featuring expert-led sessions covering the latest advancements in malaria control and elimination.
