PRESS RELEASE
VIETNAM, 25 APRIL 2019 — Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, moves into the second phase of its partnership with M2030, a brand created by Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance (APLMA),[1] and supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.[2] M2030 brings consumers and companies together in a mission to end malaria in the Greater Mekong Sub-region and in Indonesia by 2030.
As part of this phase, Shopee will be launching a dedicated M2030 capsule collection in Vietnam where for every US$1 spent, Shopee will donate US$1 to defeating malaria in Asia. In addition, Shopee will introduce an interactive game, ‘Mosquito Smack’, as part of its efforts to engage users and raise awareness about malaria in the region.
Malaria, the world’s oldest and deadliest disease, impacts millions of lives in Asia-Pacific. Consumers and businesses have the power to end this disease now, especially before emerging drug-resistant strains of malaria have a chance to spread across Asia.
“The first phase of our partnership with M2030 was met with great success. With that, we are pleased to launch the second phase, where we aim to further rally Shopee users from across the region to support M2030’s funding efforts and accelerate the defeat of malaria. We hope to make a positive difference to this cause together as one community," said Chris Feng, Chief Executive Officer of Shopee.
Patrik Silborn, co-founder of M2030 and Head of External Relations at APLMA said, “Partnering with Shopee has allowed us to tap on their extensive network of users across the region, and to get more people onboard our fight against malaria. It is heartening to work alongside homegrown businesses who are invested in changing the course of history in this region.”
“We are confident that the second phase would be as successful, where 100% of the funds raised will go towards alleviating the cause,” he added.
