In an unprecedented show of global solidarity, donors at the Global Fund's Sixth Replenishment Conference pledged US$14.02 billion for the next three years – the largest amount ever raised for a multilateral health organization, and the largest amount by the Global Fund. The funds, which will be used for the period 2020-22, will help save 16 million lives and end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria by 2030.
APLMA applauds the unmatched generosity of donors from both the public and private sector. The largest donors to the Global Fund include the United States of America with a pledge of US$4.68 Billion dollars; the United Kingdom £1.4 billion; France €1.296 billion; Germany €1 billion, and Japan with a pledge of US$840 million. In addition, the private sector stepped up with a total pledge of more than US$1 billion, whereof US$760M was pledged by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Global Fund is an indispensable partner in the quest to eliminate malaria in Asia and the Pacific. It currently finances close to 40 percent of all malaria programs in the region. The political commitment to eliminate malaria matched with effective Global Fund counterpart financing policies have contributed to a tripling of domestic resources for malaria in Asia and the Pacific between 2012 and 2020.
APLMA and the Global Fund have a strong partnership enshrined in an MOU, focusing on raising domestic and private resource for malaria, jointly exploring alternative financing mechanisms, engaging media, and promoting M2030.
